To give a better idea about where we are with Viewbook V3 we’ve decided to make the progress public on a weekly – if not daily – basis. You can now follow the progression of all the different parts of the system on the V3 development site. You will see an overview of the modules and other parts of the system that are planned to be released within the first version of V3 (rollover each item to get a short explanation). Each item shows a progress-bar that will change over time, plus a status that gives an idea about planning or what we’re currently working on.

Notify me when V3 Beta is available.

Wow! This dashbord is awesome, great idea. I will certainly be checking the status of V3 as I can’t wait. :)

Thanks Seb, great to hear.

Will these features be released as they are completed and made available in the current version of Viewbook, or will they all be released together?
Also, I noticed that the status dashboard says that manager integration and conversion will take place in January. Will this be the official introduction of V3 or just the beta launch? If it’s the former, how soon can we expect to have a look at the beta version?
I don’t mean to be pushy, I understand that these things take time and that there is a lot of work involved. It’s just that I plan on hiring a graphic designer to redesign my promotional material and I’d like for them to be able to work on the website at the same time.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Max, all will be released together, V3 is a completely new system, that will be released with all these components, all at once. We do not have a release date for the Beta version yet, some things take longer than others so it’s hard to say. My advice would be to implement your new website in the current version of Viewbook. You can always switch to V3 when it’s available (that’s what the conversion component is for). Thanks for your understanding.

Hi guys,
Nice way to follow the development of the V3 engine.
According to this schedule, it seems to me that you’ re not developing your own blog facilities? (as you mentioned a couple of month ago: “we’re checking out options and feasability for a specific, new format for a Viewbook Blog Module”).
Kind regards! Marieke Koudstaal

We’re looking at three options for blog integration; 1) Tumblr loaded into Viewbook (currently available) 2) Export of Viewbook design for WordPress 3) Our own blogging module. Option 2/3 are not scheduled yet, but will be one of the first things after the (beta) release of V3. Thanks!

> 2) Export of Viewbook design for WordPress
This would be my ideal choice.
Thank you!

‘this week’ seems to last more than one week, and ‘almost done’ isn’t exactly almost done either, : ).

Hi,
will I be able to handle a layout like this one http://www.lebeck.de/ with V3?
Thanks
Comment by georg — December 14, 2011 @ 5:32 pm
Great website. Yes, that will be possible, although this is a Flash site with all the smooth transitions, but you can design the same layout and big image display in V3.

Great. Thank you. Hope you will be ready soon :-)

Hi Viewbook team!
Quick mail to let you know that… I really love what your building. But also that… I am getting… impatient. I’m basically waiting to update my website / portfolio; and initially I wanted to wait for your V3 as this might be the best portfolio on the web ever… But I’m checking your progress every 3 weeks since… monthes. Really. And even if I know very well how software development goes (working in dev too), it’s like you still need 3 to 4 monthes… Last summer I bought another 6 months perido instead of a full year because… I was a bit scared of having to wait a full year… And now… It looks like this is gonna happen. Soooo anyway my question: what is the date you really think that we will be able to start using the litlle beauty? 10th of March? April? June? Thanks in advance. D

Hello Dominique. Great to hear your enthusiasm, thanks a lot. I think you make a good guess. Did you already signup for alpha/beta testing? Fill in your email address at the bottom of the page here http://v3.viewbook.com. Good chance you will be one of the first to check it all out.
Thanks.

Thank you Andrew, I pass it on to the designers and developers! Same to you!

Rien,
Just to clarify, when you say somewhere past Dominique’s middle guess – do you mean that V3 will most likely be live around late April or early May?
Comment by Max Kelly — January 5, 2012 @ 9:23 pm
Hi Max. The unavoidable question… We understand all your questions for a final date and really appreciate your patience, but at this moment, we can’t tell an exact date. The Viewbook team, grown from 6 to 12 staff last year, is working full force to get there as soon as possible. Going live will involve different stages; the first release will be tested with a selected group of users, once we gathered and processed feedback, there will be a new release for a broader group, and then finally V3 will go public for everyone.
In order to get invited for the first release, please leave your email address. We keep you posted as frequently as possible, check v3.viewbook.com regularly.

Hey guys, will V3 be more video friendly? I’m a freelance music video director & photographer and I’d love to showcase my work through your site, but the previous versions video functions were not as good as i’d hoped.
Comment by Robin van Calcar — January 12, 2012 @ 5:57 pm
Would love to know more about when is a tentative date for launching. Would love to stay with viewbook, for another project I got going on, still considering other options
Comment by paolo — January 16, 2012 @ 12:52 am
@Robin Viewbook V3 will have more layout options to combine, video, text, galleries, etc on single pages. It will basically give you all the freedom in how you want to display video. We’ve also integrated a Vimeo embed widget that makes embedding and configuration of the Vimeo player easy and without leaving Viewbook. Deeper video integration is one of our top priorities this year.
@ Paolo, we can’t give a tentative public launch date yet, but comment #19 gives a little background info and explains more about how V3 is going to be launched.
Great thanks for all the interest and feedback. We’re making good progress.

I just checked out the V3 blog and it seems like things are coming along nicely. I was wondering if it’s possible to view higher resolution photos and screenshots of the new menus and containers through the blog – I’d love to get a closer look at the new V3 features.
