Aperture export plugin for Viewbook

By Rien | April 4th, 2011 | 13 Comments

As of now a plugin to export images from Apple’s Aperture to Viewbook is available here. So from now on you can create new presentations and update your Viewbook website straight from your Aperture library.

On January the 29th I received this e-mail from Jean-Christophe Gallagher: “I am new to Viewbook, and I like it so far! I’d like to obtain an api key, as I am building my own export plug-in for Aperture.” I immediately asked Jean-Christophe if he wanted to make the plugin publicly available. Two months later it is ready and available for everyone to use! A big thank you to Jean-Christophe.

The plugin comes with an installer, exports IPTC data (captions) to Viewbook, allows you to select and create a new Viewbook album within the plugin and allows you to choose how to compress and size your images when exporting to Viewbook.

We’ve added the plugin to Viewbook’s add-ons page or you can get it via the link below.

  1. Cheers Rien,

  3. This is great, thanks!

…but it isn’t installing for me. Have tried the 32 and 64-bit versions, still nothing.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks! :-)

  4. David, let’s take a look at it together to see what’s up on your system. You can send me a quick note at me@jcgallagher.com, and we’ll figure it out. Thanks!

  5. This is excellent! I had a bit of an issue installing (perhaps to do with my particular system?) but got there eventually and Jean-Christope was super helpful and responsive.

    Highly recommended. :-)

  6. I love that you guys are doing all this extras work, but I really hope that there will be some new options for design and customization soon.

  7. @Gene, thanks for your feedback, *but* the plugin is not created by us (Viewbook). As you can read in the post above, Jean-Christophe created the plugin for his own use and was happy to share it with everyone. So no ‘extra’ work at all. All of this is possible because we expose an API that makes it possible for developers to enhance Viewbook.

Secondly, we *are* working hard on new options for design and customization as you already know (see What we are working on for 2011). We are building a completely new website editor from scratch, and as with any big project, it simply takes a while. Thanks for the patience and we’re planning to post more about this in a couple of weeks.

  9. Hello Rien,
Is there any chance of a Capture One plugin?
    Cheers,

  10. @Hans, I could not find any examples of plugins for Capture One on their website http://www.phaseone.com/en/Software/Capture-One-Pro-6/About/Pro-Overview.aspx. Do you have more info?

  11. I am experiencing difficulty in installing the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on my imac but both are fail to load. I consider joining the viewbook membership if problem solved successfully.
    Thanks
